Random capital punishment factoid: Texas, Virginia, & Oklahoma are top three killers in the USA when it comes to implementing capital punishment. The three states account for over 50% of the executions in the USA since 1976. As of Thursday night, the three are also the only jurisdictions where contested execution dates have not been stayed due to concerns over lethal injection. [At this point in time it remains unclear whether the stays entered in Ohio & Tennessee will block all the scheduled execution dates in those states or not.]

DISCLAIMER The site contains, chiefly, the thoughts and analysis of Karl Keys. It is designed to be a first draft of history & a first draft review of case law, not the last. The goal is to get timely, accurate and germane information to those involved or interested in capital litigation. In the balance between speed and accuracy, speed sometimes wins. The law may have changed, we may have misread and misunderstood something ten years ago and still be clinging to a misperception. It is not intended to be a comprehensive review of the law.
