CDW over the years has been blessed to have numerous “ghost” writers who live/practice in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 9th and 11th circuits, but seemingly always demand anonymity. On the techie side, during most of CDW’s run Lisala provided an invaluable degree of assistance and led the drive to the CSS / WordPress format.
The lead author is Karl, a former capital defense attorney who now solely does felony trial defense in a non-death penalty jurisdiction, who can be reached by sending email to email@example.com
Started in the summer of 1997, Capital Defense Weekly / A Capital Defender’s Toolbox, is arguably the oldest “blawg” still in operation, predating even the first usage of the term “web log”, “blog” and “blawg,” and is indeed at least a year older than that other site that falsely claims that title. Over the years CDW, as it is often known, has been used as an example of the future of law reviews,2 a way to keep current capital defense theories,3 and a showcase of how a website can impact an area of the law.4 Over the years as Karl broadened his practice to more traditional criminal defense work and general litigation, the site’s name has changed from “A Capital Defender’s Toolbox” in which “Capital Defense Weekly” was a “section” of the site to its current name and location.
