The ethical issues are pretty straight forward, the most important one is I don't necessarily own the intellectual property I created here since March of 2003 for reason I'd rather not address here. Others are free to go forward with the concept esp. since I released the search algorithms to the interwebs, but I simply can't permit my name to be associated with the endeavor.

Thanks for your many hours, weeks, months and years doing the enormous amount of work involved with this blog. It was a monumental effort and will be badly missed.

I visit prisoners on death row who need legal information. It must be printed, as they have no access to computers or telephones. They have asked for a subscription to CDW. Do you have any suggestions as to where they can get publications that can provide them information about current state and national capital legal proceedings - information they need to file their writs and law suits?

I can't imagine what the ethical implications would be of letting someone else take over, maintain, and update (whenever able) the site. Any resources at all to assist the wrongly convicted and oppose the death penalty should remain available.

I hope you'll reconsider and let whoever was offering to do so take over the page!

Shutting down cap.def.wkly basically sucks, for those readers who have not commented and I say so because over a period of four decades in and out of state and federal prison I have helped more than two dozen murder cases get reversed or win new trials and filed two winning pro se habeas petitions for those who did not know how to; so, basically Karl, unless you are dying or already dead you know shutting down the email newsletter sucks for hundreds if not thousands of paralegals such as myself who do all the hard work while lazy lawyers get all the money.
Otherwise, my respect,

It will be sad to see Capital Defense Weekly go. Perhaps there is something I can do to help it keep going. Without it, there will be a huge gap in the community.

Karl,

I will miss CDW - I learned a lot through this blog.

Thank you so much, and good luck with your new project!
